I'm slightly confused about the concept of a 'laptop friendly' pub
being mixed with a PotD. Generally it's best to keep some considerable
distance between laptops (or indeed any complex and expensive electronic
equipment) and beer.
Do you have some idea of what people want to do / discuss? Do you want
to run a presentation or some talks first - or will it be just an
informal chat with topics ranging from the weather to global warming,
PHP's interaction with Apache2 to the political implications of Posh
Spice getting (or not getting) another dose of plastic surgery, the
'hoppiness' of the latest pint of $tipple to security and scalability
for Zend based projects and everything in between?
If you want laptops and presentations, somewhere like the ICS or some
office meeting room might be appropriate. For general chatting,
keysignings and CACert and Thawte Notary cross verifications, pretty
much any decentish pub might be appropriate. Scruffy Murphy's and The
Schoolhouse are near the ICS (and my offices, if it comes to it) but
I've no doubt there are more central pubs that are equally appropriate -
I just don't know them I'm afraid. Clearly I should go out drinking more
often ;-)
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
