thank you very much for all the answers, i did go for Eclipse in the end, i
learnt java on it, it'll save me the time to familiarize with the IDE
installation was smooth enough too, so all is left to do now is cracking on
with some coding
thanks to everybody, i do intend to explore some more ide's in the future,
i'll keep your suggestions in mind!

I'll second this. Also, if you're thinking of ever needing a full IDE for
any other languages, Eclipse will be your friend here two. Get to know one
IDE and get to know it well. I plan to use as many languages as my brain
will let me understand. Hence, I use Eclipse.
There's also EasyEclipse (www.easyeclipse.org) which will get you up and
running as fast as possible. There's a distro for PHP which includes the
base plugins you need.
